Learn about special encounters we had that make Katmai so unique
Split Ear
We came across the coastal wolf known as Split Ear who had been fishing for salmon during low tide. After gaining their trust they were willing to fish close to us, even bringing their fish on the river banks near us.
Moose vs. Bear
Rarely are moose and bears interact with each other, they often occupy the same spaces but do not care for each other. This moose cow and young female bear, however; chased each other as the moose cow crossed into the inlet. Like a dance, one would chase the other until they both retreated into the dense Alaskan bush.
A Day in Alaska
Above all else, we enjoy the unknown of what happens in a day in Alaska. Much of our encounters depend on being at the right place at the right time.
